Press release: Financial Times-ETNO Summit 2014: Towards a Digital Renaissance

Telco leaders’ summit to take place next week in Brussels

Brussels, London – 25.9.2014. The Financial Times and ETNO, Europe’s leading telecom association, will hold next week the 5th FT-ETNO Summit to discuss the “New Digital Agenda”. As we move towards the new term of the European Commission, the event will bring together Europe’s political and business leaders to provide timely input into the Commission’s next wave of digital policies.

ETNO Chairman, Luigi Gambardella, said: “Since the launch of the Digital Agenda for Europe, the telecoms sector has experienced change beyond any expectation. The paradigm shift is clear: ICT today is not only about communicating; rather it is the main driver of life-improving services. We have gathered exceptional speakers for what I am sure will be an exciting debate”.
The Financial Times Telecoms Editor, Daniel Thomas said : “The last 12 months has seen sentiment shift, balance sheets restored and M&A back on the agenda for the telecoms setcor. Now, with a new European parliament there are some defining choices ahead both for regulators and managements to chart their way to creating a modern and vibrant telecoms industry.”

The keynotes

Through a series of keynote presentations and CEO panel debates, speakers will examine what needs to happen to encourage investment, enable innovation and foster consumer confidence. The keynote speakers of this year are: Luigi Gambardella (ETNO Chairman), Fátima Barros (Incoming Chair 2015, BEREC, and Chair of ANACOM, Portugal), Lowell C. McAdam (Chairman and CEO, Verizon Communications), Reed Hastings (co-founder and CEO, Netflix), Neelie Kroes (Vice President of the European Commission, Commissioner for the Digital Agenda). The event will be moderated by Daniel Thomas (Telecom Editor, Financial Times).

HSBC & the Investor Panel

HSBC, the leading international banking and financial services organisation, is this year’s lead sponsor of the Summit and will bring the expertise of the investor world to the event. In this context, Stephen Howard (Global Head of Telecoms, HSBC) will moderate a panel dedicated to the investor view on European policies.

The FT-ETNO Summit, now in its fifth successful year, has established itself as the key event in the industry’s calendar. We are proud once again to bring together a distinguished speaker line-up to discuss the way forward for Europe’s digital economy.
