The pilot project OPENQKD that is funded by the European Commission was launched on 2 September. Test quantum communication infrastructure will be installed in several European countries. 

The €15 million project will span three years and aims to increase  critical applications' security in various areas, especially in the telecommunications sector to secure data traffic in transit and at rest. It will also aim to boost security in government services, health care and electricity supply.
