Europe’s Internet Ecosystem: Is Everybody Contributing Their Fair Share?

16 May, 10:00 - 12:00, Brussels and online
In partnership with MLEX Market Insi
ght

The European Commission has set fresh EU Digital Decade Targets for the period 2020-2030. Full 5G and FTTH “connectivity for everyone” is the pivot towards all the other targets: from the digital transformation of businesses to digital public services, empowering the twin green/digital transition and boosting ICT skills.

Taking place on 16 May, from 10:00 – 12:00, in Brussels and online, the event follows the latest Axon Partners Group
report for ETNO and will provide the opportunity to discuss its findings. With all speakers, we will explore the following questions: is the EU on track to achieve its connectivity targets? How do we compare to global peers? How are different market actors contributing to the roll-out of 5G and FTTH? How are network costs distributed across the digital value chain? What about the financial – and environmental – sustainability of Europe’s internet ecosystem?

Speakers include:
  • Rita Wezenbeek, Director Connectivity, DG Connect, European Commission
  • Wolfgang Kopf, Senior VP for Group Public and Regulatory Affairs at Deutsche Telekom AG
  • Dimitri Kallinis, Managing PartnerAxon Consulting
  • Alfons Oliver AltésPartner, Axon Consulting
  • Lise Fuhr, Director General, ETNO
  • Representatives from other stakeholder groups to be confirmed soon.
Moderated by Lewis Crofts, Editor in Chief, MLex.

The world’s first dedicated online safety regulator, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant, shares her vision for a safer internet for citizens across the globe. In leading this pioneering agency and its work to prevent online harms, Commissioner has drawn on her two decades of experience in the technology industry to help eSafety write the rule book from scratch. If UK were to go easy on India, it could spell trouble for data flows with EU. Brussels can pull the plug if it fears that Europeans' data is insufficiently protected once it’s shipped on to India, which EU hasn't yet approved as safe destination for data. 2/2
