ETNO Statement on the European Chips Act
ETNO welcomes the European Commission’s proposal establishing a framework of measures for strengthening Europe's semiconductor ecosystem (Chips Act). A robust legal framework will respond to the need for a sustainable and resilient semiconductor supply chain across different geographies and ensure the EU’s place in the global supply chain.
The telecoms industry provides the underlying enabling technology for a vibrant digital economy and society across the EU. As the industry evolves towards next generation technologies that are increasingly dependent, whether from a smartphone perspective or a network perspective, on cutting-edge chipset design and manufacturing, the availability of a diverse and resilient set of supply options will be crucial to ensure that future telecom networks and services contribute to strengthening the European semiconductor ecosystem.

#ThinkDigital interview:
Rita Wezenbeek, European Commission
#ThinkDigital video series are back! In this video interview, we went to ask to Rita Wezenbeek, Director for Connectivity, DG CONNECT, what her main messages were at the event on Europe's Internet Ecosystem, organised by ETNO and MLex earlier this week.
Ms Wezenbeek said: "Gigabit networks are indispensable to reach the Digital Decade targets, so it is very important. This means large funding needs. The Commission, the European Union, is taking a lot of measures in order to meet those funding needs.
But we have also put in the Declaration of Digital Rights and Principles, the principle that all market actors should contribute in a fair way to the financing of the networks, of the infrastructure. The Commissioners Vestager and Breton have adhered to that principle and said “we need to work on it”.
