ETNO ON THE INFORMAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS COUNCIL

Connectivity is the key to our economic resilience and to creating new opportunities for citizens: it is all about competitiveness and sustainable growth.

On the occasion of today's Telecom ministers meeting in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) for the Informal Council, our DG Lise Fuhr and Deputy DG Alessandro Gropelli share their three main priorities for connectivity policies:
1. European telecoms are innovating steadily. Every year, we invest €50bn~ in Europe.
2. Don’t give network roll-out for granted. We must be able to invest more and faster.
3. It’s all about a stronger EU connectivity ecosystem: strong operators and vendors, but also more innovation from APIs to edge cloud and Open RAN.

How to accelerate Sustainability with innovation!

Thrilled to kick-off the first Accelerating Sustainability in Telecoms project roundtable yesterday. This initiative is the result of the joint effort between ETNO Association & UNI Europa and represents a milestone of the social partners to foster sustainability within the ICT industry.

It sets the stage for a future in which innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. Technologies such as AI-driven optimisation, along with the inherent efficiency of 5G and fibre connectivity offer a unique #opportunity to make telecommunications more eco-friendly than ever before.

However, we should also explore potential #challenges: the impact on workers and the labour market presents a nuanced landscape, where technologies promising efficiency may also require us to address privacy & autonomy issues.

Stay tuned: you can learn more in the #study that we will make publicly available next week!
