#ThinkDigital Interview with Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice President & President, Qualcomm Europe
Innovation in connectivity has the potential elevate current and future trends: 5G, AI, Edge Cloud, to name a few. Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm Europe Enrico Salvatori highlighted that innovation in these technologies is necessary also for the upcoming Metaverse services and the digitisation of our economies.
#ThinkDigital Interview with Rachel Samren, Senior Vice President, Chief External Affairs and Governance & Trust Officer (Telia Company))
Ms. Samren told ETNO that recent reports on climate change are very worrying, and more acceleration of climate action is also needed. "Telia Company and the telco sector are ready to do their part by taking responsibility for their own footprint and enabling other industries to reduce emissions and become much smarter about energy usage. That is through products such as smart cities, smart energy, and smart transport, whereby helping other sectors reduce both their energy consumption and overall emissions".
Recent years have also really shown the absolutely fundamental role that telcos play in societies. Telcos empower and really include everyone in the digital economy as well as the future societies in our digital lives that we all want to live. “There are so many challenges in the world around us. So I think the real strength is to ensure that we as a sector, as a community, keep on allowing everyone to participate. Also going forward”, she added.

Installing Fibre to the House is the shortest phase of the process: it takes only 3 hours out of the 18 months of the rollout process. Most companies choose to build distribution boxes in facades of buildings to minimize the impact of deployment. In that case, cables are spliced through a special machine connecting them to the network.

Just like Rome, Europe’s FTTH network wasn’t built in a day. Cable blowing, drilling, trenching: learn more about what is behind Europe’s historic €150bn telecom investment to bring fibre to all. Watch the second episode of our #FibreStories series of short videos!
Fibre to the House (FTTH) will revolutionise the internet during the coming years, with speeds up to 20 times faster while consuming 12 times less energy. Bringing fibre to households is not as easy as it sounds: it takes vision, huge telecom investment and hard work, which can delay it up to 18 months.
Europe needs regulatory and policy action in order to speed up networks’ deployment and achieve these ambitious objectives, but also address the demand side in order to make these networks accessible to all. And also economically viable in the long term” states Incoming BEREC 2023 Chair Konstantinos Masselos in our #ThinkDigital Interview on how to achieve the 2030 Digital Decade Targets.
Masselos also reminded that achievement of the three key priorities for the 2021-2025 strategy (promotion of full connectivity, supporting open and sustainable digital markets and empowerment of end users) will be particularly addressed during his mandate.

#ThinkDigital interview: Ana Figueiredo, CEO, Altice Portugal
This #ThinkDigital video interview features Ana Figueiredo, CEO of Altice Portugal.
Ana called for new ways to make the telco industry more sustainable and prosperous, and for decreasing the regulation to permit either co-investment, or consolidation among operators. "Today, most of the operators are working with a return of investment that is below their cost of capital. This is not sustainable on the long term. If we want to have very high capacity networks, if we want to embrace 5G, the fibre roll-out, or event 6G in the future, we need to find a way to make it more balanced", she mentioned.
